Estimates, pricing and additional repairs

Separate a displayed starting price from a shop estimate and authorized repair work.

The shop sets the price

Independent shops set repair prices. A displayed marketplace price may be a starting price, not a final quote. Diagnosis, parts and vehicle-specific requirements can affect the estimate.

Before work begins

Ask the shop to explain the expected work and obtain a written estimate through its process.

  1. Clarify any diagnostic charge before diagnosis begins.
  2. Ask which labour, parts, taxes and fees are included.
  3. Ask what happens if additional work is found.
  4. Agree the authorization process and keep the estimate.

When the price changes

Ask for the reason and an updated estimate before approving additional work. WrenchFinder does not approve repairs on your behalf or adjust the shop’s invoice.
