Four decades in Alliston
Honda of Canada Mfg. is marking 40 years of vehicle production in Alliston, Ontario. The first plant opened in 1986 with 175 associates and began by assembling the Honda Accord.
Honda says it has invested $6.5 billion in Canadian operations and built more than 11 million vehicles in the country. The Alliston operation now employs about 4,200 people, produced more than 400,000 vehicles in 2025 and serves as the global lead plant for the sixth-generation CR-V.
Plant 1 currently produces petrol and hybrid versions of the Civic sedan, while Plant 2 builds petrol and hybrid CR-V models. Honda reports that roughly 70 percent of the Honda vehicles sold in Canada each year are made in Alliston.
The manufacturer also estimates that it buys $3 billion in goods and services from Canadian suppliers annually and supports about 30,000 additional automotive-sector jobs. Those figures are company estimates and should be read as a corporate economic-impact snapshot rather than an independent labour-market study.
To mark the anniversary, the Honda Canada Foundation is supporting charities in Simcoe County. Honda has also committed $4 million toward the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
